Crime Prevention Checklist

  • Does your home have that “lived-in look?
  • Have you kept your keys guarded against unauthorized duplication?
  • Do you have strong locks on all doors and window?
  • When you are going to be out of town, have you made sure that no strangers know that you will be leaving?
  • Do you have automatic timers controlling your lights?
  • Never leave a message on your answering machine that lets people know you are out of town.
  • Are your possessions insured and do you have a complete inventory, as in pictures or video?
  • Have you recorded all the serial numbers or identifying marks for all your valuable items?
  • Are extremely precious items secured away from home, i.e., in a safety deposit box?
  • Have the mail and newspaper delivery suspended.
  • Ask a neighbor or hire someone you trust to mow the grass while you are away.
  • Have you had a security system installed and activated?
